Pool Filter Repair: Chandler
Swimming Pool Filter Repair
We are often asked which type of swimming pool filter works best by our customers who are considering a filter upgrade. While not an easy answer, there are definitely some considerations to be made that will help make the decision easier.
The first consideration should be on the surrounding elements where the pool is located. In our Phoenix Metro area we can take the City of Chandler as an example on which pool filter would be the best choice. Chandler, AZ is an area that has many large HOA housing developments which are heavily planted with large mature trees well as grass lawns. In areas like these, a cartridge or DE pool filter will work very well.
Cartridge filters provide excellent filtration and no supplemental media needs to be used. A simple 2-3 times annual disassembly and hose down is all that is needed for maintenance.
DE filters would also be a an excellent choice in mature landscaped or grassy area, especially if you have a “showplace” type pool such as a linear architectural type design that incorporates such features as laminar colored light fountains or sheer descent blade type water features. These features both require very fine filtration to achieve the best visual results, and a DE pool filter with its powder media and its ability to filter down to very small micron size particles would be an excellent choice.
Some areas of Chandler are still ranch or horse type properties that have much fine dirt to contend with. In these areas of Chandler, we would recommend a sand type filter over a cartridge or DE filter due to the fact that maintenance requires nothing more than a regular back-washing regiment.
Recent introduction of crushed recycled green glass to take the place of the sand media has now seen incredible results. The glass media will reportedly last the life of the filter and does not require a change out every 5-7 years as has been the norm with regular sand. Also, the glass sand filter media has the ability to filter down to cartridge or DE filter capability, thus making a sand filter with glass media an excellent choice in these types of areas.
If you live in Chandler, AZ chances are you have a pool. That means you also have a pool filter. If it is a sand filter that means a regular schedule of backwashing to assure proper filtration.
A sand filter works by passing the water through a large bed of sand that is contained in the filter tank. As the water runs through the sand bed, sharp edges on the sand particles actually catch any dirt and debris. When enough dirt has built up in the filter, it is time to backwash. Backwashing reverses the flow of water through the sand bed and carries it out through a waste hose or pipe to a designated area.
Often in newer HOA developments, there is little area to direct this run off to with out making a mess. Fortunatley there are alternatives such as cartridge filters that actually do a better job of filtration and do not require backwashing.
Modern cartridge filters do an excellent job of filtration and are able to catch fine algae spores and dirt particulates. Also since there is no backwashing, there is no regular waste of water.
Modern element design assures quick and efficient cleaning making maintenance an easy task.
