How quickly a year flies by! To bid farewell to 2015 and welcome 2016, we’ve put together a list of exciting events in the Phoenix metro area. Whether you love 80s music or a classical symphony, a masquerade ball or a cozy flannel party, there’s something for everyone around town on New Year’s Eve.
Hotel, Casino and Resort Parties
For an upscale New Year’s Eve party, you’ll find events at hotels and resorts in the area. Champagne, caviar, cocktails, fancy dress, dancing – these parties have it all! Check out the Ignite soiree at the W Scottsdale Hotel, or the New Year’s Eve Arizona party at the Saguaro Hotel. At the Talking Stick Resort, there is the NYE3 party for those who want a rocking dance party, complete with a lineup of DJs and Led Zeppelin and AC/DC tribute bands. All three events take place in Scottsdale. Visit their respective websites for tickets and schedule of events. In Chandler, check out Powerdrive’s New Year’s Eve Party at the Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino, with local bands. For tickets and more information, visit their website here.
The Flannel Ball and Art Show is a low-key affair for those who love arts, crafts, bourbon, and of course, flannel. Since 1999, the Flannel Ball has brought in the new year in comfort and style, with artisinal craft beers, food vendors, art show, and print media. The event also includes a champagne toast and a beer garden. The Flannel Ball begins at 9pm and takes place at Lawn Gnome’s Publishing, 905 N. 5th Street, in Phoenix. Tickets are available at their website.
B-Sides: An Amoral Masquerade
If you love costumes and Cornish pasties (the traditional meat-filled pies from Cornwall, England), then plan to spend your New Year’s Eve in Tempe! The Cornish Pasty Company holds a masquerade, with “impure attire” encouraged. Opened in 2005, the Cornish Pasty Company was the brain child of Cornwall native Dean Thomas. There are now two locations, in Mesa and Tempe. The Amoral Masquerade takes place at the Tempe location, 960 W. University, Tempe. There will be DJs and live bands, with a focus on New Wave music. Free entry. For more information, visit their website.
NYE Block Party on Mill Avenue
For almost a decade, the NYE Block Party has been a popular New Year’s Eve event in the Phoenix metro area. Taking place in downtown Tempe, this year’s theme is “Bourbon Street of the Southwest.” From 7pm to 2am, the block is transformed into a festive party, with 18 different bars, food and drink vendors, and performances from local bands and DJs. The street becomes a dance party, with the countdown at midnight. Restaurants and bars along this street will also be celebrating, with special admissions. For more information, visit their website.
Phoenix Symphony’s New Year’s Eve Celebration
The Phoenix Symphony performs a medley of songs that range from Strauss to Puccini to Gershwin to Gilbert and sullivan to seasonal popular hits. With two performances (4pm and 7pm), the New Year’s Eve concert is lead by Randall Craigh Fleischer, a Leonard Bernstein fellow at the Phoenix Symphony. Have an enjoyable, entertaining experience at the Symphony before heading out into the night! Tickets are available here.
